LOOKS WE LIKE: T.D.D. STYLE FILES | Valentine's Day LOVE-ly Fashion Inspiration

If you're anything like us you've been debating what to wear on Valentine's Day, regardless of your plans. Do you have a fun night out with the girls? A fancy date with that boy you really like, or maybe even love?! What about a casual, yet fun outing with someone new?

Well don't worry whatever your plans might be, we've got you covered! We have taken the liberty of pulling together three looks. Don't see a perfect match? Don't panic. Take a breath, choose your favorite look and make it your own with personal touches like that ring your mom gave you or that scarf you bought abroad! No one said you had to rock red and pink from head to toe, so please don't. Instead use red and pink as accent colors to make a fun and modern look!

LOOK NO. 1  «« The Little Black Dress (LBD) »»

Perfect for a formal dinner with that special someone, the little black dress will never let you down. When you want to make a statement of classic elegance and forever after romance, find the LBD that complements your curves and be adventurous with new cuts and silhouettes! Jazz it up with a red lipstick or slip on ballet flats for a more casual evening. Every true fashionista knows that the LBD is not plain nor boring and usually ends up being your style's best friend: always reliable and flatters your beauty in every stage of life. You're sure to turn heads with this classic look and hopefully invite some extra sparkle as a gift from your sweetie.
*And if you happen to be in a city other than Los Angeles, where winter is a season defined by cold weather, choose a coat that has a different pattern or texture to add some variation. This wool coat from Zara reminds us of the 60s with it's distinct tailoring, and brings an air of classic glamor to the ensemble.

LOOK No. 2  «« The Sweetheart Dress (❤) »»

Is young love in the air this Valentine's Day for you? Try our sweetheart look, which is perfect for a new relationship or fresh romance where you want to tease but still keep it classy. It's fun, flirty and just a hint of sexy. Accentuate your neck and shoulders and show a little extra skin with a flattering strapless sweetheart neckline. A corseted silhouette pays compliments to your waist and make sure the skirt hem hits just above the knee for the most flattering cut. While this is perfect for a more casual Valentine's date, your date's attention will be 100% focused on you!
*Travel light with a clutch wallet just big enough for the essentials. And add a little sparkle with delicate jewelry: no need to overwhelm the simple and glowing beauty that is you:)

SHOES: vintage silver pattern peep-toe heels, Cynthia Vincent (found at Wasteland)
WALLET: navy blue clutch wallet, Deux Lux
NECKLACE: white gold heart locket, family hand-me-down from my mother
BRACELET: rhinestone band

LOOK No. 3  «« Who Needs A Dress? (It's all about what says me!) »»

Sometimes we forget that Valentine's Day isn't all about couples and dates and "happily ever after"... often it's about recognizing the love all around and rediscovering your LOVE for life! Being single or not celebrating the commercial day of love with a special someone doesn't mean it's not worth celebrating at all. Use it as an excuse to rock out to your own style and show the world and those around you how much love you have to share. Whether that means smiling at a stranger, sending your grandma flowers just because, baking cookies for your coworkers, telling your besties you appreciate them, dropping your brother a line to say hey, recycling all applicable materials (to show your mother earth some love), sponsoring an orphan in a far-off country, or anything that goes to show you care and truly do have love to share, don't even think about hesitating and express your love!

Ditch the stuffy date idea and just go out with friends, grab a few drinks! Accent your daily wear with hints of red and pink for a festive flare. Nothing is sexier than a girl who keeps it real and owns her style. Poke fun, if humor is your escape, or sport bright red shades to make a statement. Whatever you decide to wear on Valentine's Day this year, put in that extra smidge of effort and make sure it genuinely says "YOU" all the way through!

T-SHIRT: vintage, t-shirt was given away for free as part of a UCLA art student project (I then "tailored" the cut)
SKIRT: YAYA Nom de Plume blue layered skirt,  Urban Outfitters
SHOES: red wedges, TOMS (not yet sold in stores)
SUNGLASSES: red and black wayfarere sunglasses, Ray-Ban
BAG: light pink bag, H&M
EARRINGS: Guns 'n Roses pop art disc studs, found famous Chatuchak market in Bangkok, Thailand
WATCH: silver link band watch, Target
RING: rhinestone oval wrap ring, Forever21

No matter what your plans are for February 14th, 2012, or what style you decide to endorse... We wish you a truly lovely and very happy Valentines Day!

xo,
The Dorothy Girls
